Cardiff Junior Devils 6 - 2 Solent & Gosport
(Recorded as 8-0 victory to Cardiff – Solent short benched).

The blue skies of Easter Sunday saw a comfortable victory for the Cardiff
Junior Devils under 10s team at the Cardiff Bay ice arena on 12th April.
After two tough away matches in recent weeks, a rejuvenated Cardiff
team played with growing confidence and increasing skill to score
six excellent goals, with a hat-trick going to Cardiff Man of the
Match, Eliot Randall. Second line forward Iwan Williams scored two
convincing goals, his first of the season, with the final goal scored
by third line forward Ethan Nesic.
Cardiff players Max Roberts, Sam Smith and Dylan Jeenes guested for
Solent in the first and second periods, with Cael James, Ben Morgan
and James Parkin showing their sportsmanship in the third.
Once again, Cardiff’s netminder Jake Roberts put up a fine display
in goal, making several classy saves including a great glove catch,
and even chalked up an assist on one of Eliot’s goals. At the other
end, Solent’s netminder, David Grindrod, had to work hard to keep
an on-fire Cardiff team at bay.
The Solent first line deserved their two goals. For two periods they
kept Cardiff defenders Alex Ljungstrand-Byrne and Jake Burt working
very hard, forcing the play wide and clearing the puck time after
time, while Iwan Davies and Cael James helped Eliot make the most
of every chance. But two very well-worked plays beat the Cardiff defence,
with good passing and clever positional play opening up unbeatable
chances for Solent’s Mikey Laishley.
The second line defence of Ella Nesic and Ryan Fearnley also combined
well to keep the Solent forwards out wide, with both players creating
attacking chances and registering assists on Iwan’s second goal. Tom
Francis and Lewis Davies made some great forward moves, passing well
to find Iwan and set up his first goal.
Cardiff’s six and seven year old third line showed how much they
have improved over recent weeks. Ben Morgan shone in centre, making
some great turnovers to keep Cardiff on the attack. Sam Smith and
Dylan Jeenes found an extra gear to power up the wing, only for their
breakaway to be stopped by the buzzer, while Thomos Marsh and Archie
Peake pressured the Solent defence throughout.
Well done to the under 10s for a very well-deserved and sporting
victory.
The score is recorded as 8-0, as per EIHA under 10s rules, as Solent
could not field a full team.
