Cardiff Junior Devils 4 - 6 Swindon
On Saturday 10th January 2009 the Cardiff Junior Devils under 12’s played
their home game against the Swindon Jaguars.
Their away game against Swindon back in September 08 was a far and
distant memory, it being the first game of the season. At that time
the U12’s had a very small squad of mainly first year 12’s and only
4 second year players so Swindon may have thought this game would
be a walk in the park after winning that first game 9 -2. The U12’s
now with a full squad of 19 players, 5 months down the line and having
played eight games however showed them a completely different game
and a well improved team.
Swindon were quick to get the first shot on goal into the net in
just 54 seconds of the first period followed by a further goal at
4.55. Cardiff’s Scott Bird assisted by Kristoff Gibbon got Cardiff
on the score sheet when he scored the home team’s first goal of the
day followed by another goal at 12.26 by Owen Bradshaw assisted by
Ellis Sheppard. With 14 shots on goal in the first period Ciaran Matthews
had his work cut out. Score at the end of the first period score 4
– 2.
At the beginning of the second period the score line drew even closer
with a 3rd goal by Cardiff’s Kristoff Gibbon assisted by Lewis Docherty
making the score 3 – 4 to Swindon. All players gave 110% and Swindon
soon realised it was not going to be the easy ride they thought it
was going to be when Cardiff battled to score a further two goals
at 25.40secs and 26.37secs. With a change of netminder Cardiff fought
on with a further goal from Scott Bird assisted by Ellis Sheppard.
With the final score of 6 – 4 this was the U12’s best
game this season each and every player proved this team is going from
strength to strength.
