Cardiff Junior Devils 1 - 1 Peterborough
The Cardiff Devils under 14’s started life back in the A league with
a tough opening game at home to Peterborough.
The game started at a frantic pace with solid checks and big hits
coming in from both teams. As the period settled down it was Peterborough
who started to get a grip of the game as the Devils found it hard
to control the puck. Despite chances for both teams the first period
ended all tied at 0-0.
The Devils came out for the second period in a more determined manner
and started to get the better of Peterborough, although again not
creating clear cut scoring chances. The Devils were dealt a blow when
defence-man Joe Morris collected his second 10 minute penalty and
was ejected from the game. This left the Devils with only 4 defence-men
but the battling qualities of all the boys saw them through to the
end of the second period with the game still tied at 0-0.
With the game looking like the first team to score would win, the
Devils started playing their best hockey of the game and were rewarded
at 31:52 with a goal from their Captain Kieran Latchford with the
assist from Giacomo Raffaelli.
The Devils were now in the driving seat and controlling the game superbly
until a freak goal from Peterborough came at 38:22 to bring the game
level. Still anyone’s game it was a nail-biting end as the clocked
ticked down the last 5 minutes.
Despite some great power-play chances for the Devils they were unable
to find a way past the Peterborough’s net-minder and the game finished
tied at 1-1.
This was a great performance from all the players against one of the
strongest teams in the league. If the boys continue with this spirit
and determination they are in for a very successful season.
