Guildford 1 - 2 Cardiff Junior Devils
Sunday 21st December saw the Cardiff U14's play their last game of 2008
against a Guilford side fighting it out alongside Cardiff for a top
two spot. Cardiff started the game strongly and had the early pressure,
but found the home netminder in strong form. And it was Guildford who
found the back of the net first. After losing a face-off in their own
end Cardiff paniced and the lose puck found it's way to a Firestorm
player who finished with a neat shot from the slot, beating James Whiting
over the shoulder in net for Cardiff.
Cardiff carried on playing their game and continued to push forward,
getting plenty of shots on goal, again only for the home netminder to
push them all away.
The 2nd period started with Cardiff getting an early Power-play chance,
and Cardiff took control and finally got their reward as Ellis Price
slotted home a rebound after a shot from Tom Parkinson was saved. The
rest of the period was nearly all Cardiff, as they applied pressure
looking for the win. And with five and a half minutes left, Cardiff
were given a five minute power-play after a Guildford player was ejected
from the game. Cardiff took their chance and again got plenty of shots
to goal, and finally got their reward with just 90 seconds left in the
game. Giacamo Raffealli winning an attacking face-off clean to Tom Parkinson,
playing on the point who let go a slapshot that went straight through
everyone and found the back of the net. Guildford pulled the keeper
and applied some late pressure but Cardiff hang on for a good away win.
