Cardiff Dragons - End of Season Presentation 2006/2007

The Cardiff Dragons held their inaugural end of season club presentation on Sunday 1st July at Pentyrch Rugby/Cricket Club.

The recent wet weather held off leaving the Dragons able to enjoy the day and the BBQ that was provided before the awards ceremony began.

The awards got underway with Club Treasurer – Dave Oliver welcoming everyone and saying a few words about the season just gone. He also thanked everyone, on behalf of the committee members, for their invaluable support which has helped to turn a tough season into a successful one for the club.

Each team, from the under 10’s to the Under 19’s, were congratulated for their achievements and those individual players who represented the South West Conference teams and who were selected into England and GB squads were also congratulated – you all make the club very proud.

The ENL Dragons were not forgotten and had a mention. They out of all the teams had a tough time after being withdrawn from the league early on but the team will bounce back and are raring to go to challenge for honours in the new season.

Head Coach Zbynek followed Dave to say a few words about his hopes for the club. Then each of the clubs players were presented with a trophy - a thank you gesture from the committee to each child for all their effort and hard work throughout the season.

Following this were the individual awards given to specific players from each of the age groups in the categories – Player Awards and Improved Player.

The player awards were voted for by team mates while the coaches and managers selected the most improved player awards. These went to:

U12’s – Ellis Price

U14’s – Dafydd Davies
U12’s – Luke Southwood
U10’s – Connor Harris & Lewis Docherty

It then remained for CJIHC’s Director of Hockey Paul Hayes to present the Clubman Award, this year it went to a deserving Under 19 player – Gavin Davies for his dedication to the Dragons and his team mates during what was an especially tough season for the under 19’s. Gavin impressed his team official this year because he showed the right commitment and attitude throughout.

Being new to ice hockey Gavin was not always guaranteed ice time particularly as the under 19’s struggled at the start of the season to move off the bottom of the league, but that never dampened his commitment to the game, club and team mates and he continued to train, travel to away matches and he attended every home game. He set a very good example to the club as a whole and the committee are very proud of his attitude. He also helped his team-mates secure a spot in the A league next season after they saved themselves from relegation.

Gavin was very honoured to receive the award and has enjoyed his season with the Dragons and his team.

Finally, as the evening drew to an end Dave, on behalf of all the committee members, once again thanked everyone for all their support and vowed to take the club forward with everyone’s help, players and parents, to build on what we have already achieved to make the 2007/2008 season an even better one!
