Under 12’s net minder James Whiting did a great job between the pipes
last season for the under 12's and he played a key role in helping
his team gain promotion back into the A League for this season.
But always looking to develop and improve on his skills James attended
the GB goaltending camp over the summer months.
James has attend the camp before but this year he excelled himself
and impressed his coaches so much so that he received great praise
from top net minder Joe Watkins, who runs the camp and was deservedly
named net minder of the camp.
So impressed was Joe with our young Dragon that gave also him a glowing
report.
James is a very good young goalie. He has great ability and
awareness in the net for such a young goalie. He always listens and
works very hard and this means that James will no doubt just continue
to get better. It is great to see his love of the game and his desire
to be the best he can be,
Joe Watkins
James said he had a great time mixing with other net minders aged
between 8-18, even though they all had early starts having to get
up at 5.30am to be on ice at 6.30am.
James went on to say “I learnt a lot from Joe, he was a very good
coach and he has helped me to improve on the skills that I already
know and helped me to develop new ones. It was the best feeling being
named net minder of the camp because there were such a lot of good
net minders there and older ones too not just my age group and it
made all the hard work and early starts worthwhile”.
Well done James you’ve made your parents and the club very proud,
keep up the good work!!
You can see James and his Dragon team mates in action on the 29th
Sept 07 when they take on Guildford here in Cardiff Bay for their
first home game of the season, Face Off 4.15pm.
