Sheffield’s under 12’s Ice Hockey Tournament

Cardiff’s under12s completed their season with a superb 4th place finish in the recent Sheffield tournament to round off a cracking year for the boys.

Cardiff Dragons U14's

The Tournament comprised of 12 teams from England, Scotland and Wales. Cardiff's group saw them matched up with the hosts Sheffield, Chelmsford, Coventry, North Ayre and Romford.

The Dragons got off to a great start beating North Ayre 4-0 with goals from Owen Griffiths, Callum Buglass and Tom Parkinson(2).

Next up was Chelmsford in what turned out to be a cracking game of hockey with Cardiff just edging it 2-1 with goals from Lewis Docherty and Tom Parkinson. The afternoon game saw us up against Coventry and Cardiff really turned on the style in this game running out 7-2 winners with the goals coming from a hat trick by Owen Griffiths and 2 a piece from Callum Buglass and Tom Parkinson.

Cardiff had one further game to play that evening and it saw us up against the hosts and favourites Sheffield. Cardiff gave them the fright of their lives hitting the post twice and making Sheffield defend for long periods before being edged out 1-0. That rounded off Saturdays play with the boys now shattered but all looking forward to Sunday’s games.

Cardiff had an early start on Sunday but coped well with it, they edged Romford 4-3 in another superb game of hockey. The goals coming from Liam O'Keefe, Owen Griffiths and Tom Parkinson. Cardiff then had to play Bracknell in a cross over game to determine standings.

Bracknell's previous 5 games had seen them hammer their opponents with their lowest win being 8-1!! Their game with Cardiff though was something different, the score just 2-1 after 21 minutes however some unfortunate calls saw Cardiff eventually went down 5-3. Owen Griffiths was Cardiff’s scorer completing a great hat trick.

The Bracknell game put Cardiff in the playoff for 3rd/4th place against Chelmsford. Again Cardiff played superbly gaining a 3-3 tie with the goals again coming from Owen Griffiths, Tom Parkinson and Callum Buglass.

From the resulting penalty shootout Chelmsford edged it 1-0 to claim 3rd place with Cardiff finishing 4th.

This was a great tournament that every single player from the squad took part in and a 4th place finish was a tremendous result by the team.

Top points scorers for Cardiff were:

Owen Griffiths 8+5 13 points
Tom Parkinson 8+2 10 points
Callum Buglass 4+6 10 points
