Cardiff Dragons 4 - 2 Chelmsford Mini Chieftains

Chelmsford were the visitors at the Cardiff Ice Arena, opponents for the Dragons under 12’s who hoped to bounce back from their narrow defeat last weekend to Peterborough.

The game started at a great pace with both teams looking threatening going forward but with some great defence and net minding from both teams the game remained scoreless for the first ten minutes.

The deadlock was finally broken by the Dragons who scored a great breakaway goal from the prolific Tom Parkinson assisted by Owen Griffiths on 12:06. This seemed to bring all the confidence back to the Dragons who really upped their game and were again rewarded with a Tom Parkinson goal, Tom getting his 2nd of the game assisted by Ben Palmer at 16:42.

The Dragons were now firmly in control and the scoring in the 1st period hadn't finished with Tom Parkinson completing his hat trick from a great play assisted by Callum Buglass and Owen Griffiths just 15 seconds from the end of the period.

The Dragons came out at the start of the 2nd period firmly in control of the game but were then rocked by a quick fire 2 goal burst just 20 seconds apart to change the complexion of the game.

Chelmsford were now a different team all together and it was the Dragons who had to defend for their lives. With the game entering the last 5 minutes and net minder James Whiting pulling off some stunning saves Tom Parkinson eased the nerves scoring an unassisted goal putting the Dragons 4-2 up. Despite chances for both teams this rounded off the scoring for the game in what was a great advert for under12s ice hockey with not 1 penalty called all game.

This was a great team effort by the boys with each and every one of them playing a great part in this win. WELL DONE BOYS!!!! A big mention must also go to Otto Karu who played his last game for us before moving to Finland, Otto was awarded the spirit of the game trophy, well done Otto thanks for your commitment to the Dragons this season and good luck with your hockey in Finland.
